I thought I would take a few minutes and write to the Jobless Joe community on how to leverage LinkedIn as a jobseeker in today’s world. My goal each week is to help you become a power user of LinkedIn in order to help you achieve your goals as an employment seeker. Given this is my first “how to” write up; Here are the facts. Let's take it from the top. Currently (July 20, 2009) LinkedIn has over 43M registered users and growing at about 1 million new members per month organically. What does this mean to you? It means opportunity and the ability to quickly reach out and connect with the person you seek. For example: If I was looking for the purchasing manager at a certain company, there is a 1 and 43+ million chance that this person is on LinkedIn. The new way allows me to reach out to that person directly verses cold calling. Keep in mind that every 20-30 days LinkedIn grows by another million users.
What is LinkedIn used for? How is LinkedIn used?
You can:
-search for new opportunities
-research
-advertise
-recruit people to your business
-conduct reference checks
-more
For this week’s tip let's talk about a few MUST DO things before we start to talk about searching, tagging, networking, etc.
Must do’s:
- Add each position you had over the past 10 years. (Title, dates, company)
- Add content, content is very important, it allows people to find you when they search
- If you are in a numbers/quota driven position, make sure you list your numbers, i.e. $5M quota 600% achieved.
- List your certifications and highest level of academic success
- If you are reading a new book, make sure you list it on LinkedIn. People like to see what interests you have and how you are pushing yourself to learn new topics.
- Endorsements, make sure you have a couple positive notes about your work from your current boss or a previous manager. This is important.
There you have it! Now let's get started on building strong profiles. Once you have this finished, standby for my next newsletter that will address search. As we learn, we will continue to build your presence on LinkedIn and start to use some of the useful features that are rarely used.
Regards,
Dan Park

The economic recession that
The economic recession that strikes our country is a burden that brings trouble to us. At the later part of the previous year, many companies declared its bankruptcy and seek the help of the government. As a citizens, we are all directly affected by this. Many are left jobless because of the company closures. But according to the experts, the economy is getting better now however, people are not yet believing for they are still unemployed. Well, People of Wal Mart, may be a vicious stereotype – but admit it: there is a kernel of truth to the idea that there are people who frequent the store that seem like perhaps they shouldn't contribute to the gene pool. Some people of Wal Mart, or at least people who habitually shop there, are just cost conscious consumers, people who need things or are able to afford something they normally wouldn't from a high end shop but can there – Wal Mart is a friend to the college student – but the stereotype at times comes all too true at the stores. People of Wal Mart or anywhere else still need installment loans for bad credit at times.

A link to LinkedIn and how to use it would be nice.
